There’s nothing like the great outdoors, going camping, and enjoying mother nature. One of my favorite things to do while “roughing it” is to roast hot dogs and marshmallows above a roaring campfire. There were times that my family and I wanted to have the same experience, but we just weren’t able to pack up and go camping. After this had happened a few times, I made a decision: we would build a fire pit in our backyard.
I found the right spot for the pit and got to work. The first thing I did was remove weeds and anything else that could easily catch fire if it were too close to an open flame. I looked at different styles of fire pits and decided to do one that would be just below the ground. I went to a local rock pit and found some flat rocks that could be fit together like a puzzle and then bound together by cement.
The most important thing to do when building a fire pit, is the placement of where the fire will be. It is recommended that the pit be surrounded by cement and be far from bushes, fences, and other flammable materials. It is also important not to have it too close to your home so as to avoid disaster! The materials surrounding the pit should also be sturdy and able to withstand the heat that will be produced by the fire.
Once we had the fire pit installed, we spent many nights around it cooking dinners, spending time together and making s’mores and we will continue to use it throughout the years!
