When the economy took a hit, I needed to expand my business a little further than before so that I could make ends meet.  I found myself doing more jobs for homeowners and put a small add in the paper to get some more business.  Many of the house calls had to do with small repairs and doing a lot of these jobs helped me stay on my feet.  The majority of the calls I got, however, were calls to fix clogged drains and backed up systems.  Some of these jobs were as simple as pouring contractor grade drain cleaner in the clogged pipes, which is the go-to for most jobs and usually fixed the problem.  Not all jobs are that simple, however, and they required different methods to fix the clog.

For the jobs that couldn’t be fixed with liquid drain cleaner, I would use a hand powered snake to get deeper in the drain to find the source of the clog.  Using the hand operated snake fixed most of the problems that weren’t as simple as using liquid drain cleaner.  This tool is called a “snake” because it is a thin metal wire with other metal coiled around it.  It is held inside a basin where it can coil up, just like a snake.  The wire is inserted into the drain and then a lever system is used to drive it down the drain.  As it passes through the drain, it cuts through the debris that is clogging up the pipes.  But a hand operated snake can only go so deep, so some times you need to bring in the “big guns”.

It isn’t too often, especially when dealing with residential clogs, that you will need to bring in something bigger than a hand snaking tool to get the job done.  But when the occasion calls for something that can reach deeper into the drain and uses more power that can be generated by the use of arm muscles, an electric drain cleaner will need to be used.  As with many other power tools electric drain cleaners come in many different types and sizes.  Some are smaller and simple while others are larger and more complex.  Some are handheld while others are so big that they rest on the ground while they are being used.  Among the larger ones are some that are so heavy that they have wheels on one side so that they can be moved around without breaking your back.  Some use smaller motors while others use a higher powered motor to get the job done.

As can be expected, the larger and more powerful the drain cleaner, the more expensive the unit will be.  Whether you are looking for a small handheld drain cleaner or you are looking for a larger, heavy duty cleaner, you can find what you need at: https://www.plumbersstock.com/category/211/electric-drain-cleaners not only do they stock different types of electric drain cleaners, they also have them at a reasonable cost!
